Intergalactic Campout Weekend at Anza Borrego
Hare(s): Flabio, Dive, Tatas, possibly Drag.
Location: Under the tamarisk trees at N 32° 50' 55.18", W 116° 11' 16.10" (click the link above for a map and to get directions)
Directions: From San Diego: I-8 east to Ocotillo, north on S2 for 15.8 miles, turn right. From North County: 78 east past Julian, right on S2 a few miles after Banner (don't miss the turn!), then 31.8 miles south on S2, turn left. The turn off for the tamarisk trees is about 1.5 miles north of the S-curve on S2 and about 0.4 miles south of the turn off for Bow Willow campground.
Run Fee: Free, just bring your own everything! Tatas is cooking chili for Saturday night and Dive will make Asian shrimp quesadillas at various times.
Trail type: (not specified)
Dog friendly: (not specified)
Notes:
This will be the last chance for the hash to go to the desert before it gets too hot. In typical Intergalactic style, you'll need to bring your own camping gear, food, munchies, beer, alcohol, chairs, firewood, toilet paper, whatever else you need, and plenty of water. Someone will have a cooker if you need to cook and there will be a wash tub for a fire. The campsite is primitive and has no amenities. Come out on Friday if you can, don't be too late getting there if you're coming out on Saturday.
This is a freeform adventure with no plan. Possible trips include the wind caves at Domelands, the mud caves, or the oasis to the east. We will probably meet up with the nearby Diaper Rash campout during the weekend for a group outing.
The exit off S-2 can be hard to find. Look for the "SOUTH Carrizo Creek" sign, tinyurl.com/ycthwxs (assuming it has not been washed away). Hopefully, we will get there early enough to claim the most Eastern end of trees.
